Retiring, losing employer coverage or moving can affect your choices. We can help you understand the next step and applicable enrollment opportunities.
Two common ways to structure Medicare coverage
The right approach depends on your individual needs. Here’s a simple starting point.
Original Medicare + Supplement
You keep Original Medicare (Parts A & B) and may add a Medicare Supplement policy to help with certain out-of-pocket costs. Prescription drug coverage is generally handled separately.
- Broad access to providers that accept Medicare
- Supplement premiums vary by plan and other factors
- Often paired with a separate Part D prescription drug plan
Medicare Advantage
A private plan provides your Medicare Part A and Part B benefits and may include prescription drug coverage and additional benefits.
- Plans can use provider networks and service areas
- Copays and other cost-sharing vary by plan
- Benefits and plan availability can change from year to year

Medicare questions we hear often
Do I have to choose a plan as soon as I turn 65?
Your timing depends on your circumstances, including whether you have qualifying employer coverage. We can help you determine what applies to you.
Can I keep my doctors?
Provider access varies by type of coverage and by plan. Checking your doctors before choosing coverage is one of the most important parts of our review.
What about my prescriptions?
Drug formularies and pharmacy costs can differ significantly. Bring your current medication list so we can make it part of the comparison.
Can I change Medicare coverage later?
There are specific enrollment periods and certain qualifying situations when changes may be allowed. We can help identify the rules that apply to you.
